Small Batch Kebari for Tenkara Anglers by a Tenkara Angler

Jay’s Kebari Shop has been producing quality flies designed for tenkara since 2025

Tying your next confidence fly

I started Jay’s Kebari Shop to address some gaps in commercially available kebari styles. Styles such as futsu kebari, palmered kebari, and giant kebari are in limited supply, but I find them crucial components of a well-curated fly box for tenkara. To design flies for New England and beyond, I take traditional Japanese design principles as a foundation, and apply my own style on top of that. Every fly is built with a purpose in mind, starting with function and ending with form. My philosophy is that a fly not only has to fool a fish, but it must also inspire confidence in the angler. My final designs take the elements that produce results and distill them into a simple, sturdy fly that you can feel confident to tie on.

Scruffy, Yet Consistent

I intentionally design my flies to be scruffy and include planned randomness. This results in buggy looking flies that better imitate insects than an overly tidy tying. However, I tie my flies to consistent, exacting standards and with an eye towards durability. My kebari may be scruffy, but they are never sloppy.
